From the Vice President

Published on 1/1/2018

Here’s hoping everyone had a great Christmas and you won’t party too much on the 31st so you can make it to the first club event of the year, the Annual Tour d’ Orange which happens on January 1st. I have been assured that it will be happening but where it will be starting from will not be determined until just before the date. I will be sending out an email blast once I hear the location. We have just added the Annual Tech Session to be held on January 27th at Peter Roses’ home in La Canada and further details are to follow but this is always a great session of Healey related items and a great lunch so mark your calendars.

In February we will be having two Club events, the San Juan Capistrano show on the 3rd and the always popular 11th Annual Surf and Turf Rally in Orange County on the 17th, which serves a great charity, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The Club will be having a booth again this year at the Los Angeles Classic Car Show at the LA Convention Center on March 2-5th. Either Saturday or Sunday will be designated a Club day with lunch at a nearby restaurant. We will again have a hospitality area at our booth and room for 5 cars. I am looking for a BN1 or 2, a 100-6, a (BJ7, BN7 or BT7), a BJ8 and a Sprite. Let me know if you would like to have your car showcased at the event and be aware that you will have to have the car there on Thursday afternoon before the show and leave it there until the show closes at 5 PM on Sunday. Be assured, there will be security present at all times.

If you cannot make it to the Classic Car Show hopefully you will attend the “Festival of Whales” in Dana Point that same weekend. You can attend either one of the days or both. It is a great venue with Dinner the evening of the 3rd at the Dana West Yacht Club. Bummer that I will miss it this year.

It was an honor to be awarded the Barnett Spirit Award for 2017 but truthfully, I would not have had a chance if Tom Spangler had not had is car rear ended going home from a club event in August, as he was well on his way to giving Phil Caliva a run for his money. I am looking forward to the two of them going head to head in 2018 once Tom gets his car back.

Also, if you have ideas for a new Club event, please drop me a note at the email address on page 2. It’s nice to have a folder full of good future events for us to enjoy. As Phil Caliva says “our cars are there for us to drive and enjoy not sit in our garages.” So hopefully everyone will make a New Year’s resolution to get to a number of club events in 2018.
