From the Vice President

Published on 2/1/2019

After returning from the Scottsdale Auctions, who ever said that the collector car hobby is dead was wrong, as there were overWlowing crowds at the Bonham’s, Gooding and RM Sotheby auctions.  There was robust bidding and most of the cars sold.  However, I noted that a signiWicant number of cars were at "No Reserve", where in the past, it was the other way around.  Healey results are detailed in another article but there were only eight Big Healey’s and two Sprites in the six Auctions.  It was great seeing Bruce Steele there with his father-in-law, but I do not think they bought anything.

It looks like we are going to have a very busy few months, especially March through May, with at least two club events each month.  In March we have the Festival of Whales on March 9-10 and then the next weekend is the Classic Auto  Show, March 16-17.  April has Peter Roses Tech Session on the 13th and then Queens English on the 21st.  Then to top it off in May we will have a club excursion to Buttonwillow Raceway May 4-5 for the British Extravaganza races.

Several of our club members will be racing, more details to follow.  Tom Colby has invited us to headquarter in the garage space he has rented at the track.  Next, there is the 2019 California Healey Week on May 13-17 in Temecula and then there is the Scottish Games in Costa Mesa on May 25-26.

Whew! Looks like a lot of events so there should be no excuse not to attend at least one of them each month.

See you at the events
