Annual Holiday Party 12/8

A total of 60 members and guests descended on the Shoreline Yacht Club recently for the AHASC Holiday Celebration. A lively social hour kicked things off, with the bar line stretching into the next room at times! We enjoyed watching my 49ers win on TV while meeting up with friends old and new.

Before lunch, some special guests were introduced, including new members Stephen Magoffin and Craig Calder and SDAHC members Terry Cowan and Lisa Mandell. We were all very pleased to see Phil Caliva in attendance, as he is recovering remarkably well after his accident in September.

Special thanks were extended to George and Teresa Merino for securing the Yacht Club for us again this year.

After introducing the Board and key office holders, guests were invited to visit the buffet table based on a blind card draw......not so much chaos as in the past.

The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the Bill Barnett Spirit Award to the member accumulating the most points by virtue of attending Club and Recurring Events. The competition this year was fierce, with Chuck Lakowski and Dexter Kaytis duking it out to the end.

The points totals accumulated were unprecedented. We looked back at the winners over the last ten years, and this year’s top three would have won any other year.

Tim McNiff finished third with 164 points, exceeding the 108 points he accumulated when he took first place in 2013.

Chuck and Dawn Lakowski finished second with 221 points, a total that would have won in any of the last ten years.

Dex Kaytis topped the list with an amazing 237 points, perhaps an all-time record, and almost double his total of 120 points when he last won in 2015. Phil Caliva, last year’s winner, presented the trophy to Dex.

Yours truly briefed those in attendance on the State of the Club...financially sound, strong management team and very active membership....I would say we are are the “poster boy” for Healey Clubs anywhere.

Mike Scroggie updated us on membership renewal, which is a little different this year and finally Greg Aden gave us a preview of 2020 events.

During open discussion it was suggested that we consider a new location for the 2020 Party and a survey has been sent out to solicit member input.

Nice to see you all! Here's to a lot of Healey miles in 2020.
