Super Car Sunday Motor4Toys 12/5

Super Car Sunday returned to the Pierce College campus in November. Just enough time to prepare for the single, biggest, car community toy drive in the country. I planned to meet Phil Caliva and a few of his friends, their cars stuffed with plush toys, at the event at 7:00am. Rolled out of bed before 6:00 and saw thick, thick fog. The temperature was around 49 degrees when I left the house, bundled up like an eskimo. After a brisk drive out the 101 Fwy, I arrived at Pierce College and met up with Phil.

Even at 7:00am the parking lot was starting to Pill up and the number of toys already collected was staggering. After setting up our cars to display the plush toys, we headed to the burrito truck for breakfast and coffee.

After eating, we took in some of the unique cars that had shown up. Racing Fords, Ferraris, Lambos, early 20th century American –  Auburn, Deusenberg, and Packard, and a one- off built on a chain drive American-LaFrance  chassis. The Classic Chevy Club had set up along a driveway with their Bel Airs and Nomads.

As we watched the cars continue to roll in, the spectators got more numerous and the volunteers more raucous as they cheered for each toy that was dropped off. We were cheered loudly as we delivered 10 large bags of stuffed toys. Then Phil and his posse headed out to PCH and the gathering at Trancas Canyon. I spent a while longer at the college and then as the sun started to show up through the fog I headed back east and home.
