OC Classic Cars & Coffee 7/9

On 9 July, Dexter and I departed from my shop at 0545 in my 1965 BJ8 to arrive early for the car show in Dana Point Harbor. We buzzed along at a brisk clip and arrived there at exactly 0630 (maybe a real brisk pace!).

We encountered many early risers at the show, I guess us old geezers can't sleep! This show is a once a month happening at this location and it is one of the great small gatherings with many awesome classic automobiles. Plus, the location is fantastic with the many wonderful boats in the marina and the restaurants overlooking the Harbor. We grabbed some wonderful Croissants with Coffee and begun the usual walking about, looking and tire kicking.

A splendid amount of Healey's, MG's, Early Porsches, a good assortment of Alfa Spiders and Alfa GTV's, a rare Lancia Fulvia, a fantastic early 1960's Ferrari Coupe, owned by a person involved in putting this show on, who has a big Ferrari Collection in Orange County.

There were also the usual old Corvettes/ Cobras/ and miscellaneous other cars.

Mike Scroggie, Dexter and I departed around 0830 to drive to Robin Nelson's home in San Clemente, to check out a non-running, lovely 1961 BT7 Healey, that was driven by Robins’ late husband, Andy Nelson for many years. Andy was a past AHASC member and past President of the Club.

We were able to get the car down off the hoist and do a checkup, and were able to fire it up with a small amount of ether. Turned out it had a non-working fuel pump. The car is awesome and with a new fuel pump, it is going to be a splendid car. Contact Mike Scroggie about its future! The show attendees : Mike Scroggie -Nasty Boy, John Hummer and Alice Johnson -100-6, Chuck Lakowski - Jensen Healey. George and Kathy McHarris - 100-4, Rich Shoemaker - 3000, Steve Heck - BJ9, Nancy Asahina - Bug Eye, Tom and Page Rubinate - 1986 Alfa, and myself w/ Dexter 1965/ BJ8.

I'm also enclosing some pictures of Andy Nelson’s Healey for interested folks and pictures from my friend Grant, Mike Scroggie and Alice Johnson.

Ciao

Editor’s note: Andy’s car is now residing with Elliott and Ginny Brown of the Golden Gate Healey Club!
