From the President

Mike Biss | Published on 9/1/2022

Lots of good things in the works. We have seven new members since July 1.

There are a few key Healey gatherings in the near future. The CHW2023 is firming up, hosted by the Golden Gate Austin Healey Club in May 2023 (stay tuned for detailed information). The planning for the International Healey Meet in Norway in 2023 is underway and the 2022 Goodwood Revival/ tour of Europe is getting closer (albeit not without challenges).

New members: We have seven new members who have joined in the last two months. The new members bring our club to over 300 active members, including family members.

Please join me in welcoming Brit Baker (Laguna Niguel), David Coe (Costa Mesa), Danny Cook (Redondo Beach), Peter Jordan (Long Beach), Kara Karibian (Sierra Madre), Troy Sheesley (Lakewood), and Gregory Smith (Culver City).

Please join me in welcoming our new club members.

Key AHASC gatherings: There are several get togethers planned as reported by Greg Aden. Key near term events include the Show ‘n Shine/ luncheon scheduled for Sept 11th.

This will be held at the Fuego Restaurant in the Hotel Maya in Long Beach near Queen Mary. The other one is the annual Holiday gathering at the Shoreline Yacht Club in Long Beach.

This is planned for Dec 11. Registration is still open in the AHASC website for the Show ‘n Shine event, so please sign up. It doesn’t cost anything. Registration for the Holiday party will be announced later this fall. In work is also a drive/ tour and picture opportunity at the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino as well as a tour of the USS Iowa in San Pedro. We are coordinating dates with the museums for these tours. We expect them to be this fall sometime. This would be a (second?) chance for the Ladies of the club to dress up in their period correct outfits purchased for the Goodwood Revival event next month. Spread the word! Other key Healey gatherings: The first is the International Healey meet in Geiranger, Norway, scheduled for June 12-18, 2023 (EHM 2023). I just checked their website (www.ehm2023.com). It looks like they have some recent openings (cancellations?), so perhaps you can still sign up if you are interested. Our cruise director Steve is continuing to coordinate our experience with epic drives, lodging, food, and tours planned both before and after the gathering. We will be starting June 7th and wrap it up July 3rd. In addition to the Norway trip, Dave Knox from the Golden Gate club is finalizing the details for the CHW2023 next year. The plan is to stay at a venue in beautiful South Lake Tahoe. The dates are tentatively planned for Sept 18th – 22nd 2023, so that the folks attending the international meet will be able to get their cars back and join the event. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

European trip 2022. Well, the planning/ replanning continues for the Goodwood Revival/ drive thru Europe to Italy tour. After an unplanned/ extended customs hold on one of the two containers, the second container load of cars has left the Port of LA but is camped out in Oakland. The delay is such that there is a fair probability the six in our group may not make the front end of our trip with our Healeys. As always Steve is doing a yeoman’s effort trying to develop work arounds.

As always, we have a lot of fun planned ahead so keep driving those beautiful cars. Although only a month into being your new president, I continue to be amazed at what a great group of folks we have in our club. And as always, if anyone has suggestions for how we can continue to improve the Austin Healey experience (including drives), please let me know. We are always looking to make this better and better.
