From the President

Well, we’re almost to fall and thankfully cooler weather. I hope you have been getting your cars out for drives and attending the numerous car shows and gatherings. One of the great events this last month was the Dana Point show, where we had quite a few of our folks and their cars there. They were right in the middle of the show and got a lot of attention. As usual, Mike Scroggie did a great job coordinating. It seems like every time I have mine out at a show, one or two guys stop by to tell me about their cars they have tucked away in their garage and are just starting to bring them back to life. I also tend to get at least one query a month about having some work done to their cars, so pass along our club folk’s info for them to help.

On a sad note, we lost another long-time member a few weeks ago, Rick Shoemaker. Rick had been an Air Force pilot, airline pilot, had a ‘59 100-6 BN-6 and hailed from Laguna Beach. Rick is survived by his wife Wendy. Please keep Rick and Wendy in your thoughts and prayers.

New Members- Please join me in welcoming three new members, Bill Pogus, Jac Stulberg, and Kay Wardell. Bill hails from Bellflower and has a ‘56 BN2. Jac is from Encino and has two ‘59 AN5s. Kay hails from Palos Verdes Estates.

Person of interest- Just want to put a shout out to Terry Cowan. I had a chance to spend some time with Terry at the Monterey Historics last month. Terry was there racing his amazing Sebring Sprite. Unfortunately, he was run off the track during the race. Fortunately, both Terry and his car are alright, just some scuff marks on the bonnet and a bit of anger. Terry is a true race car driver always making a good showing in his class. Terry is a member of both our club as well as the San Diego club. Terry was supported by his pit crew and life-long friends- Pete and Colleen Tortorice from the GGAHC. They had their stunning red square body sprite there where it was getting a lot of attention as well. Terry has helped quite a few folks in our club with their cars including me on several occasions. Please give him a shout out- he is a GREAT member.

CHW 2025- Yosemite Healey Week (YHW) 2025 is about a month away. We have had several more registrations, so we are up to 114 attendees planning to join us now. The cutoff for early registration is 9/7/25. There will be a $20/person increase after that. There are several different groups heading up in caravans. Steve Kirby is coordinating those. A YHW notice was recently sent out for the attendees talking about the drives, socializing, games and activities planned.

It promises to be a great time with everyone making lots more memories. It should be beautiful up there in the fall.

As a reminder, YHW 2025 is the second week of October 2025, so if you are still interested, we still have a few openings left.

Holiday Party- Our annual Holiday party planning is underway. We will be hosting it at the Shoreline Yacht Club as we have in the past. The party is planned for Sunday, December 14th so please mark your calendars. We will be sending out notices with sign-up information as we get closer to December. This is a great opportunity for our new members to meet other like-minded Healey fans and make connections for future technical and social events.

CHW 2026- Steve Kirby, as our social director, has been very busy getting bids for our 2026 CHW. It looks like we have settled on a great venue and are in negotiations. We will be announcing the location and venue at the CHW 2025 awards banquet. CHW 2026 is planned for the May timeframe next year. As with all of Steve’s planned activities, it should be a lot of fun, so stay tuned.

75th Anniversary International Healey Meet- We have updated the International Healey meet website and are taking advanced sign-ups. We have had a great amount of interest to date, including a few from Europe. In case you missed the announcement, it can be found at HM2027.com, so if interested, please go in and check it out. As a reminder, the 75th International Healey Meet will be held in Lake Tahoe June 2027. There will be lots of great cars, exhibits, drives and social events planned to keep everyone busy.

I can’t thank all the members enough for keeping up the great support of the Cars and Coffee and British car night activities. It is always great to see so many beautiful Healeys out driving around and being there for folks to share their Healey stories. As always, when considering having work done on your cars, please consider our sponsors. They help our club and provide rare (vanishing) and needed services and products.

As always, safe motoring and stay well!
