Spring Tech Session 4/21

The gathering at Golden Cove, Sunday April 21 was especially large from the Austin Healey and Jensen Healey set. All this turnout was clearly in anticipation of the Tech Session to be put on by Greg Aden at his shop in Harbor City. After a scenic drive through Palos Verdes, the twenty or so classic big Healeys, Jensen-Healeys, Bugeyes and an MGB arrived at “Siesta Classics” in Harbor City.

Greg has clearly not been taking many siestas, since the shop was in tip-top form.

The session consisted of three topics that Greg explained to his audience.

One was about the advantages of having a rolling engine bench from which to rebuild your engine, attach and tune carbs, play with distributors, etc.

The second was a remote-controlled kill switch that can be activated by a key fob. Talk about taking your Healey into the 21st Century! Imagine walking away from your recently parked English classic and then pointing your key fob at your car, pressing a button and hearing a high tech “chirp.” Wow! That guy’s got it all! The third was the advantages of a “third brake light” that can be attached to your Healey just for driving.

This safety feature was discovered by Peter Roses and Greg explained and showed how easy it is to attach this very bright LED light to the trunk lid (OK it’s a boot!). The strong magnets hold the brake light onto your car even under the roughest “Baja 1000” conditions! The third brake light can be removed when displaying your car at shows, although some have been considering making the “Third Brake Light” a new class of Austin Healeys from which to win awards.

Following all this helpful business Greg served Subway sandwiches and soft drinks to the group. A very nice combination of the usual Austin Healey Club camaraderie, hospitality and education.

Attendees at the Tech Session were as follows: Tim McNiff - BJ7, Phil Caliva – BJ8, Peter Hutchings - Jensen Healey, John Hummer and Alice Johnson – BN4, Dave and Jackie Deamer – BN1, George McHarris – BN2, Flavio Montoro – BJ9, Greg Aden – BJ7, Steve Magoffin –BJ8, Chuck and Barbie Meng – Bugeye, Chuck Lakowski - Jensen Healey, Nancy Asahina and Steve Schrieber –MGB, Paul Van Wig – Bugeye, Dan Burrola – BJ9, Darrin Thompson – BT7, and Joe Cristerna – BJ9.
