From the President

Mid-summer already! Hope you have had a good one.

Judging by the number of Healey events and the excellent attendance at those events it seems many of you are!  As we move towards the Fall, about 25 cars from the Club are preparing to hit the road to Conclave in South Dakota. I am told our Club is Yielding the largest contingent of any Club in the country, and that’s something to be proud of. It’s not exactly like Deadwood is just around the corner. In fact, it’s 2620 miles round trip from LA via the fastest route, all Interstate. But what fun is that? So likely most trips are going to be a lot longer.

For sure, the group I am leading is going to be detouring through Denver, northern Colorado, Wyoming, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.

Others are scheduling time in Idaho and western Colorado. There are a number of different itineraries and I hope you will see a lot of reports on those trips in future issues.

In researching and planning our trip, I was almost embarrassed by my lack of experience in this part of the US. I have been to the four corners of the globe (both with and without my Healey) but have never seen Mount Rushmore.

Been to National Parks on four continents, but never to Yellowstone. Love the Alps and the Pyrenees but haven’t laid eyes on the Grand Tetons. Something is very wrong with that, some of which will be put right soon enough.

As for the next Big Thing, plans for Rendevous 2020 in May are all set, and registration is open.

The event, hosted by the Golden Gate Healey Club, will be held at the Montbleu Resort Casino and Spa on the Lake Tahoe south shore. The $59 room rate can’t be beat. The $425 registration fee for two is also quite fair considering all that is included in the package. In fact, there are almost no optional extras.

I am sure we will have a big contingent from SoCal and, as usual, I will be leading a touring group that you are welcome to join.

Undoubtedly there will be other groups as well, doing different routes. While I doubt there will be as many cars as attended the last historic event in Tahoe, there will surely be a good turnout from all over the West. Tahoe is very accessible and appealing to those from the north and east also. So, I would urge you to consider signing up ASAP. Info at www.GoldenGateHealeys.com/Rendevous-2020.

Finally, looking a bit further out, it looks like the “International Healey Touring Club” (i.e. some of us who like to take our Healeys overseas) will likely be doing another jaunt in September 2020. This one will include the Goodwood Revival in England, an overnight ferry to France, St. Malo, Mont Saint-Michel, the Bordeaux wine country, a crossing of the Pyrenees, the French and Italian Rivieras and possibly Tuscany.

Drop me a note and get on the email list, even if you just want to day dream.

Isn’t it great what our little British cars inspire us to do?
