Inland Empire Farmer Boys 8/2

Greetings Group, It was little after 7am when my wife Sandy and I folded ourselves into our little Bugeye Sprite and set off for our event at Farmer Boys. Our route takes us through scenic San Timoteo Canyon that connects Redlands to Moreno Valley. The canyon is also an important railroad route that connects the San Bernardino/Colton rail hub to Banning and points East. The road mostly parallels the twin train tracks. Mostly.

This morning there happened to be a train. We joined a line of cars held up at the one and only rail crossing on our route, while a slow-moving freight train climbed the grade toward Banning. A long train. It had locomotives in the middle even. Possibly to separate at some point or maybe just to assist in climbing the grade. A long slow train. We waited. It was a pleasant morning.

When the train finally passed and we started moving again we spied Mark Gorden in his green Healey farther up the line. He had waited even longer. We arrived slightly late to an already good number of classics lined up. More cars were still showing up, so we were not conspicuously late. Just later than intended. No problem.

It was great to catch up with our friends again and see their classic cars. We enjoyed the morning get together and breakfast then headed back home before it got too hot.

We meet again on September 6th. The first Saturday of the month. Hope to see you at Farmer Boys in Riverside on Alessandro Blvd. at 8 am. Remember, if you missed us this time, then we missed you too.
