Boots and Bonnets Car Show 9/14

Load in for the show at the Autry Museum of the West was to begin at 7:30am. I live 10 minutes away and was driving to Griffith Park early when i got a phone call, “where are you, we’re getting in line?” Save me a place, I replied. When I arrived , my space was right behind Clay Kaytis, who was first in line.

Right behind me were Phil Caliva and Chuck Lakowski in Phil’s black BJ8, followed by Dan Burrola in his all white BJ8. Then came Greg Aden in his green and yellow Bugeye racer.

Further down the line were Russ Thompson and Joyce Maeda in Russ’ black hardtop, followed by Steve and Jan Beck in the black over red 100 previously owned by the Athies. Then came John Hummer and George McHarris in John’s Primrose 100-6, and finally Stan and Pearl Haveriland arrived to park their orange Jensen Healey at the end of the line. In addition to the Club’s cars there were two more bugeyes and a Spridget.

The show was well organized and smoothly run by the crew of volunteers, which included clay’s wife Monica, who didn’t have her bugeye to drive, it’s still in the shop. A couple of food trucks, a coffee and beignet truck, a rocking DJ, and free admission to the Autry Museum brought out a large crowd of British car owners who displayed their cars.

Of special note was the one-off AC badged Shelby Cobra prototype displayed by friend of the Club, Sandy Bettleman.

The day passed quickly with interested spectators, lively conversations among the Healey owners, and visits by a few members who didn’t show their cars, i.e. Peter Roses and Amanda Cole Perez and Art Perez. The overall turnout of cars, though not as large as Queen’s English was impressive and the MG club did a great job of organizing the whole thing.
