Old Town Monrovia Classic Car Show 10/8

George Merino had scheduled a 7:15 meet up at Huntingdon Dr and Myrtle Ave so we could go in together. Phil Caliva and his nephew Ryun, visiting from college, and Tim McNIff were there at the appointed time, but no George. Closed ramps on the 605 Fwy delayed him by 15 minutes. Once everyone was together, we got in line to enter the show. After checking in we were told to park on Colorado Blvd on the shady side of the street.
After parking, setting up chairs, and placing entry placards on the cars, we proceeded to Jake’s Roadhouse for breakfast. After the sumptuous meal we returned to our cars to relax and discuss the state of the show. The size of the show in terms of number of cars has shrunk, though the quality of the cars on display has remained high. Also, the community involvement is reflected in the shops and restaurants opening early, and the organizations participating including the Police Explorers presenting the Colors to the young lady singing the National Anthem.
Heard from Clay and Monica Kaytis that they were coming to check out the cars and would join us for lunch. Lunch happened at JB Burgers where we all squeezed into a corner booth and chowed down on burgers, chilidogs and shakes. With our tummies full we returned to the cars and spent the next few hours talking to interested spectators and reminisced with many veterans of a similar age.
When none of our Healeys were selected for an award, we decided it was time to beat the rush out of the show. A few barricades moved and then replaced and we were on our way. A good time in a great venue with Healey friends.
