OC Classic Cars & Coffee - 4/11

Today was another two-fer car event accomplished by the four Amigos and one Amiga. We planned this driving route a few weeks ago and it was well worth the time spent driving through Orange County and seeing three new collections.

Nancy and I met up with Bob Bolling at our usual spot, the south 405 and the corner of Bellflower Blvd at the Chevon gas station, for a dark 0630 departure. We had a good run to Laguna Canyon Road and hit a very small rain shower. The drive thru the Canyon is always spectacular and at this time of the year you realize why Huell Howser called his TV Travel/Discovery Show “California Gold”, what with all them thar hills a golden color! Soon after we arrived at the Aliso Creek Cove, it never disappoints you with the dramatic ocean view and the large waves breaking right up to the parking lot’s edge, and later breaking at the breakfast shack outdoor eating area. It does not get any better than this scene anywhere I’ve traveled around the world, plus it is free!!! After parking and being greeted by our friend and Healey Club member Dick Ames, and the organizer of most car events in the Orange County area, Richard Schnider, we saw our other Healey buddies, Clay and Monica (Lago) Kaytis pop in with Monica making a fast pit- stop style entry (she is in racing mode now, in case you have not noticed! Monica, Nancy, Clay, Bob, Dick and I were standing in line at 8am when the shack opened, and we ordered our great breakfast burritos and sandwiches to go with our coffees , then commandeered a picnic table at the water’s edge. Here we could enjoy the meal, the scenery, and the sound of the huge waves breaking within a few feet of us. What a wonderful way to enjoy our cars and our friends company. More of you folks in the club should consider this event, you will be rewarded with the splendor of it all!.

As I started this story with a two-fer, I want to explain to you folks that think our small group only chases club points; we also do many other non-club related car shows and benefit car runs. For example, Bob, Clay, Monica, my lovely wife Nancy and I left Aliso Creek and drove to The Calvary Church in Santa Ana for a benefit Fun Run organized by an old So Cal. car club, The Mercifuls,(a great group of car fanatics/hot rod enthusiasts). All pictures shot by Clay and Monica, as I was designated the writer of this story!
